My Mother - Her Amazing Love!

A few days ago, we celebrated eight glorious decades of my Mum's amazing life. I felt many emotions both of joy and even moments tinged with sadness. Well, time has a way of just marching on...even when we all wish it may just slow down a bit so we have all our loved ones with us always.

Even as I try to describe who, what and how much my Mum means to me, I know I can never find the right words to ever describe her fully. All I know is Mums are one of God's  greatest gifts to us - just as our dads are! Their love is as close to unconditional love that we will ever experience. Of course, our parents are not perfect but I know most of us realize the great sacrifices our parents have made for us. I need look no further than the lives of my siblings and me. We will not be who we are if our parents did not sacrifice everything for us - never caring that they had to keep their savings for their old age. I cannot imagine that amount of trust or faith but they had that in abundance...in God and in the children He gave them!

My Mum had to ensure all the eight kids studied well and she encouraged us to aspire for a good and meaningful life. My Dad never said "NO" to what my Mum hoped for their  children's future - no matter how great a personal sacrifice they had to make. She was always our "advocate" to get a YES from my father especially at times he might say NO to some things we wanted to do as teenagers. She was also the one who spanked me and my younger sister who would invariably get into a fight if we played too long with each other.

The years are passing by and my Mum is still the most beautiful person for me. Her love is irreplaceable to me just as my dad's was. At times, I ponder about God's great love for us - what more could I ask for in my mother? She gave us everything! Both my parents' love are mirrors of God's Love for me - "You are Precious To Me" (Isaiah 43:4).  Now she lives on her own because most of us live overseas.

Yet, my mother is still thanking God for our lives - I keep hearing her say that! It really pierces my heart hearing her loving words of thanksgiving to God not minding that we cannot live close to her. Makes me wonder about a mother's amazing love that no words can ever describe. When we are with her as some of us were over this past week, she was filled with a quiet, contented joy at the noisy chatter we were making. She does not talk much - she is quieter these days. But I know she is feeling joyful having us around together for once. Usually we visit home at different times so that my Mum has one of us visiting her every few months of the year. So this is a special occasion - for my Mum and us too. In fact, we have not really gone out but chosen to spend as much time as possible at home together.

Let us not leave it too late to show our Mums (indeed our Dads too!) how much of a great blessing they are to us!

I came across this beautiful music video - This Amazing Love - written by Mark Laudeman and sung by his daughter Emily for the first time tonight. It is truly touching and the perfect song to celebrate my mother's life.

Well, God, you entrusted me to a Mum who has done her loving best for each of us...
All I can pray every day for her is that You will reward her with a life that is blessed
abundantly with Your Love, Peace & Joy all the days of her life!
